Training with JP

JP has been teaching for many
years. From 1978 – 1998 he was based at
the South Leicestershire Riding Establishment where he taught all
levels of riders both in the riding school and on their own horses. In
1991 at the age of 18 he gained his BHSII qualification and he is also
a British
Eventing Accredited Trainer, regularly holding clinics for the Event
Horse Owners Association (EHOA).
JP offers private instruction on jumping
and flatwork, and holds clinics both at his yard on the Rolleston
Estate and at
clients' premises. To organise a clinic or find out current dates, see here.
For the
Rider…
His relaxed, friendly and patient approach to teaching
encourages JP's pupils to enjoy sessions whilst maximising their
learning potential and increasing self belief. Clients often find
themselves achieving much more than they ever thought possible with
their new found confidence.
By always focussing on self belief, the subsequent
communication to the horse is one of confidence leading to a more
effective horse/rider combination. Training with JP makes you feel part
of a winning team.
Being a real perfectionist he will not only increase your success but
make you look stylish too!! Over the years JP has achieved excellent
results from
both horse and rider, some examples of past pupils' achievements are
below:
Emilie Chandler
A full time event rider, Emilie is currently competing a number of
horses from Pre Novice
to CCI***. Her successes include 23rd at first Badminton in 2003 riding
Bridgestone, completed Burghley 2003, 2nd U25 Championships Bramham
2002, 1st at Windsor 3DE 1999 & Junior National Champion,
Individual Silver medallist Junior Europeans 1998,
Team Gold Medallist Junior Europeans 1998.
Fiona Davidson
Following a successful season based with JP, Fiona set up a yard on her
own, and is currently competing at Advanced and CCI***. Previous
highlights include winning a Silver Medal at the World Student Rider
Championships in 2005 and representing Great Britain at Young Rider
Europeans 2004
JP has a quiet and methodical approach to his horses’
education. He has successfully produced many horses from Pre Novice to
Advanced level as well as preparing youngsters for BYEH classes.
With the right combination of time, patience and correct
training, JP produces well rounded “straightforward” horses that anyone
can ride and enjoy. With JP, whether training or competing, the
horse always comes first and he realises that there is no
set timetable as they all mature and work at their own pace. Variety is
essential in every horse's training program, keeping them
relaxed and happy in their work.
After ensuring that the basic education of the horse is
well established JP will go on to ask more difficult questions starting
small and gradually progressing. Through regular show jumping and
dressage shows as well as cross country schooling a true event horse is
produced.
Each horse will have his capabilities carefully assessed
and monitored prior to being pushed for the results ultimately desired.
For this reason, amongst others, JP has been able to continue competing
individual horses for several seasons, maintaining great
partnerships. JP has produced many great eventers, some
going on to Olympic success, others providing riders at lower levels
with huge fun and lots of rosettes!
